I am impressed with the dedication and passion of our COLA staff.  They go above and beyond to support the needs of the students.  COLA families and students are great to work with.”

Christy Smith, K-5 Teacher

Bachelor of Arts, Linfield College

Reading Specialist, George Fox University

Christy Smith brings a combination of teaching expertise and her heart into any classroom she teaches in.    Christy served as a teacher team-lead in her previous school and was selected to be Newberg School District’s Innovation Team.

“I love that I get to partner with families in a unique way.  COLA gives me an opportunity to provide learning that is self-paced and challenging, yet partner with a child’s most important teacher, their parent.  I love the one-to-one technology the children have at home. They have the opportunity to think collaboratively, critically think, and communicate virtually.   These digital citizens are becoming 21st Century learners and they get to do it at home!  I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this amazing program.”

Alison Childs, 6-8 Teacher

Bachelor in Biology, Lewis and Clark College

Masters in Teaching, George Fox University

“I am passionate about teaching both math and science.  Having the opportunity to help a student understand what sometimes are very challenging concepts, and seeing how proud they are after working hard to understand something is why I love teaching. I think the COLA program is such a great opportunity to bring together students, parents, teachers and the content!  I love how students are able to work at their own pace and how, with parents teaching lessons at home, students working hard and with their teachers here to support them, students can really take their education to the next level.”
